How to Conceal Dark Under Eye Circles

As the beauty expert here at e.l.f., I get asked at least once a week how to conceal dark under eye circles so I figured I'd write a blog post about it. Dark circles are not as tricky as they seem. Most of us have blue/ purple tones under our eyes that make us look exhausted. Some people can get away with just using concealer, but for those of us with deep dark circles, we need something stronger!

Using a Corrector: Color correctors are a godsend when it comes to under eye circles. Using a yellow/orange based corrector will help counteract the blue/purple circles (based on Color Theory.) Correctors should be used BEFORE concealer as you don't want to walk around with orange and yellow under your eyes (try our Cover Everything Concealer in 'Corrective Yellow' or our Corrective Concealer.)

Using a Concealer: The next step to concealing under eye circles would be concealer! Duh. I recommend using a creamy, but pigmented concealer for under eye circles as this will look the most natural without looking cakey and dry (try our Cover Everything Concealer, Tone Correcting Concealer or our Complete Coverage Concealer). Something to keep in mind- DO NOT use an acne fighting concealer as the acne fighting ingredients can irritate the delicate under eye area. Go for a shade of concealer one shade lighter than your natural skin tone as this will brighten your face and under eye area without looking too obvious.

How to Avoid Looking Like a Raccoon: Where you apply the product is just as important as the products your using! The corrector should be placed only on the blue/purple spots and should be applied using a tapping motion with your finger. The concealer on the other hand can be used as a face brightener as well if used correctly. Apply concealer over the corrector under the eyes and down the sides of the nose and form a triangle and blend well! Again, only go for a concealer one or two shades lighter than your skin tone. Too light of a concealer will look obvious and crazy. For expert concealing, try our Flawless Concealer Brush.

To set all of your hard work into place, apply our HD Undereye Setting Powder. This light-diffusing powder helps further hide dark circles for a flawless, long lasting look!
