Signs, and Songs, of Hope

It's no secret, Hurricane Sandy has brought a lot of damage, heartache and pain to the East Coast. With our HQ office in New York City, and our warehouse in New Jersey, our e.l.f. Cosmetics family is no stranger to the trauma. Half of the Manhattan was dark for days, millions of tri-state families are still living without power and many lost their homes, businesses and loved ones in the tragic storm.

In a time where devastation seems to be the norm, NBC gave many a light of hope with their 'Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together' Benefit Concert that aired on Friday, November 1st. The televised fundraiser was hosted by Matt Lauer, a co-anchor on the TODAY show. Christina Aguilera, who was born on Staten Island, kicked off the concert with a powerful performance of her "Beautiful" song from the album Stripped

New Jersey Native, Bon Jovi's performance featured footage of him surverying the damage in New Jersey and speaking with victims of the storm along with an unplugged version of his hit, "Living on a Prayer."

Other celebrity appearances included Billy Joel, Jimmy Fallon, Steven Tyler, Mary J. Blige, Tina Fey, Jon Steward, Whoopi Goldberg, Danny DeVito and NBC's Brian Williams. Images of victims begging for help, paired with visuals of the damage and destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy were shown throughout the show to remind viewers how intense the damage was and how much help is needed.

Arguably the most emotional performance was the last one, when Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band closed with the song, "Land of Hope and Dreams" to tell the victims that there is hope, people do care about them and we will come together to pick up the pieces and re-build.
