When applying foundation, it is generally recommended to follow these 5 steps:
Always start with clean, moisturized skin
Apply a face primer to create a smooth base and help your foundation last longer.
Apply foundation after the primer (if used) and start by applying a small amount in the center of your face.
Use a brush, sponge, or your fingers to blend the foundation outwards towards the edges of your face, into your hairline, over your chin, and down into your neck.
Keep blending until the foundation is seamless and evenly applied.
After applying your foundation, you can continue applying concealer, cheek blush, eye makeup, and lip makeup. Remember to choose a foundation shade that matches your skin tone and undertone for the most natural-looking finish.
We recommend contouring after you apply foundation. This will help create an even base for your skin tone and allow your contour products to blend beautifully into the skin to create seamless dimension. If you feel like you might have gone a bit overboard with your contour, you can gently buff a little bit of foundation over it to soften out toward the edges of your face, into your hairline, over your chin and down into your neck. Keep blending until the foundation is seamless.
To choose the best foundation shade, it is important to consider your skin tone and undertone. Your skin tone is based on how much melanin your skin has and can range from light to medium, or dark. Your skin undertone, on the other hand, refers to the appearance of your skin and can be warm, cool, or neutral.
One quick way to determine your undertone is by looking at the veins on the inside of your wrist. If your veins appear blue or purple, it indicates cool undertones. If they appear green or olive, it indicates warm undertones. If you're unsure about your undertones being warm or cool, or if you have both, then you probably have a neutral undertone.
Once you have determined your skin tone and undertone, you can choose a corresponding foundation shade or you can try using a foundation finder tool to help you find the perfect match for your skin.
