THE ULTIMATE NEW YEAR’S EVE MAKEUP LOOK

Jeanette Crutchfield

It’s the end of 2023. There’s one last party to attend... New Year’s Eve. You’ve got the perfect outfit, to- die-for shoes, hair done just right, but what to do with your makeup? The look this season is all about glitter. Think flawless and luminous skin, winged liquid eyeliner, glitter eyeshadow, and a red lip.

Step 1: Prime Your Complexion

You’re going to be dancing for hours on end and you want to look as good at midnight as you did at 6 pm when you walked into the party. The key to making your New Year’s Eve makeup look last is to use a face primer. But not just any face primer. You want one that is going to really grip your makeup but also help smooth over your skin for a poreless effect. Get one that has a luminosity to it to ensure you have a radiant and glowing complexion.

Step 2: Apply Your Foundation

An ethereal glow is a must for this New Year’s Eve makeup look. Use a foundation if needed to even out your skin-tone, then top it with a liquid highlighter to help give your complexion a soft-focus filter effect. You’ll get a complexion that looks gorgeous in person as well as in photos. Make sure your concealer has a luminosity to it as well. You want it to conceal uneven skin tone and undereye circles, but you want to keep the glow. Try a complexion booster like Halo Glow Liquid Filter and Flawless Concealer.

Step 3: Add Your Blush

Continue the glow onto the cheeks with a blush that gives you that healthy flush of color. A cream-to- powder formula will help give you a lightweight yet buildable wash of color with a shimmer finish. Apply it to the apples of your cheeks and upward along your cheek bones for a lifted look. Try e.l.f.’s Luminous Putty Blush.

Step 4: Make Your Eyes Pop

You want your eye makeup to last all night, so choose formulas that are long lasting and smudge-proof. Put a neutral color all over your lid. Use a lighter shade under your brow bones and inner corners of your eyes. A darker color (as dark as you dare) can go into your crease. If you are feeling brave, you can smudge a little of the darker shade underneath your lower lashes. Try a No Budge Shadow Stick available in a variety of colors that blend beautifully.

Now it’s time for the winged eyeliner. Starting from the inner corner of your eye, draw very soft dashes across the base of your lashes (if you try to draw one long line, you will have to take it off and do it over, trust us). Once you get to the outer corner of your eyes, softly flick the line upward toward the tail of your brows. How far you go is up to you. Have fun with it! Try e.l.f.’s H20 Proof Eyeliner Pen.

Luscious lashes are a must with this look. Choose a volumizing mascara with a big fluffy brush to plump and lift your lashes all night long. Long lasting, smudge-proof, and waterproof are must-haves when choosing a mascara. Try e.l.f.’s long lasting waterproof mascara.

Last but certainly not least is the most fun part. GLITTER! Tap the glitter onto your lids to really make your eyes sparkle. Choose glitter in a gel base to minimize fall out and to help your glitter stay put all night. Try e.l.f.’s liquid glitter eyeshadow.

Step 5: Create a Classic Red Lip

Nothing screams New Year’s Eve more than a bold red lip. Line your lips with a lip pencil in the same shade as your lipstick to help the color stay put and last longer. To really make it stay all night, fill in your lips with the lip pencil and gently press your lips together to push the color into your lips. Try e.l.f.’s Love Triangle Lip Liner.

Now the fun part, take your favorite red lipstick and slick it on straight from the tube. You want full- impact satiny color that helps you stand out all night long. Gently blot your lips together on a tissue and apply a second coat of color to help last all night. Try e.l.f.’s new O-Face satin lipstick.

Step 6: Set Your Look

Last, but not least, you need to set your look so it lasts until well after the clock strikes midnight. Set your makeup with a face mist that locks on your look for hours of wear. You want to be enjoying yourself at the party, not worrying about touching up your makeup. Try an all-night setting mist.

May this next year be as sparkly and bright for you as your glittery eyeshadow and bold red lip! And don’t forget to share photos with us of your festive look!
