Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful under the top layer My experience with this palette was a little weird-- I was pretty unimpressed with it until I dropped it one morning while I was in a rush and broke about half of the shadows, and found the shadows underneath to be a great color and texture! The colors are shockingly beautiful once you get past the hard top layer and dig into them, though as other reviewers have said they look better when applied with a little water, and the color payout is infinitely better when you use your fingers or a very dense brush to pat them onto the lid, rather than swiping or blending with a fluffier brush. So do your best to avoid dropping them, because they will definitely break if you fling them off the bathroom counter at high velocity, but they're totally worth the price!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from WATER ACTIVATED So I want to help clear things up. This is definitely a palette you have to be willing to work with. I was about to throw this away, when I saw some people claiming that you have to add water/ a medium to make the shadows work. I tried this out with a 'c' shaped packing brush, and a lot of these shades worked really really well. The darker shades don't really work in my opinion/ they're bland. The lighter shades are my favorite/ really pretty though. Overall I really liked 7/10 of the shadows after trying this technique. I would also recommend using a spoolie to scrape of the top layer of each shadow.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works once you put in the work When I first used it, I hated it. Super dry, minimal pigment, etc. However, just as I was about to throw it away, decided hey why not and scraped the top part off. After that, YES. Once you get the dry layer off these shadows, theyre so much more pigmented and creamy imo. Yes, I totally agree if you buy something, it should work immediately, but scraping the top off makes A WORLD of difference

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Almost no pigment with most shades I bought all three excited to try them out, while NYC and Texas seem to have better pigmentation while dry California I had to wet my brush to get any color on any of the shadows in the palette. And NYC and Texas weren't much better even though they add pigment. They also didn't blend well at all if applied wet, which seems to be the only way to apply them. They were difficult to spread on my eye and dried in this flakey cracked finish and there were no blending chances while dry or wet. Which sucks because I wanted to like these palettes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Free For A Reason You do need to apply this eyeshadow with a wet brush (as seen in the two comparison pictures), but even then the amount of pigment you get is scarce considering how dark these eyeshadows look on the palette. The lighter colours apply fairly evenly, but the darker ones are extremely patchy and uneven. I put the eyeshaddow on my arms specifically for this review, and like magic, after 3 minutes; there is no longer eyeshaddow on my arms. Just a faint shimmer. Even if you are offered this as a "free" gift from elf (after spending $10... of course), I would not recommend having this product take up any space in your makeup bag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cool Colors I bought this a while ago , and played with different ways to apply it, definitely one you have to use fingers for , its even better when you use a creamy base for it to stick to. .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pallet just extra work The pallet is super dry, it’s a very dry formula, but if you wet the color you’re trying to use it works well. This was one of the first pallets I’ve ever bought and it’s still one of my favorites.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No Pigment I recently purchased this at Target on clearance, (California palette) I thought it was a steal because Elf eyeshadows typically have a huge payoff in terms of their price point. Girl was I disappointed!!! Dry brush, wet brush, finger swatching, and after being frustrated I even scraped the top layer off some colors praying that would help but NO....this eyeshadow does not have any pigment or any payoff whatsoever. Eye primer also did not make a big difference with the outcome. Do not waste your money. They need to work on their formula.

I have tried to apply some of these shades to my lid and it doesn't really seem to appear pigmented. Why is this the case? Do I need to do anything special?

Everyone is saying to wet your brush and/or the shadow itself

I truly love these baked eyeshadows. I can have some shimmer in a professional setting and still look professional. I use this in the Toast daily. But I would like to know, are your products, or any of the ingredients, tested on animals?

Asked by: Jinxie
Please note that none of our products are tested on animals.

People have said to wet the brush to get more pigment out of the baked eye shadows but, at the risk of sounding stupid, what are you supposed to wet your brush with? Water? I don't know what I'm doing

Asked by: ihaveosgd
wet a q-tip with water and rub it on the shadow round then apply
