Beauty Shield SPF 50 Skin Shielding Primer is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 115.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from a little drier than necessary I've used both this item and the Beauty Shield SPF 50 Moisturizer. I actually used the moisturizer before this and I think a product somewhere in between the two would be incredible. I don't use this is a primer for anything actually, I just sort of use it as a light, strong SPF tint with really sheer coverage. It's normally totally fine but if my skin is dry this tends to be a little pasty and doesn't help with moisture. On the other hand, the moisturizer is a better overall consistency with the same protection and tint, but it leaves my skin more shiny/greasy (kind of like a traditional SPF lotion would) and I don't always love that. I've combined the two which is probably how they're intended. I'd use this to make the sheen from the moisturizer a little less shiny. This product is super matte and it does definitely have a tint to it which matches my skin almost exactly but might not work for everyone.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Prefer the moisturizer version MUCH more I got this to replace the Beauty Shield 50 SPF Skin Shielding moisturizer that was discontinued. This has many of the same properties (as far as I can tell) the biggest exception being the texture. This is THICK. Almost paste-like whereas the moisturizer was kind of runny but that's what made it go on so smooth and effortlessly. This is like spackle; super hard to blend onto the skin. I was just about to throw it out and then decided to mix in some of my regular moisturizer. This softened it up and made it easier to apply. It works well enough but I wish ELF had never discontinued the moisturizer version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I was skeptical but Okay this is day 2 of wearing my primer but I am just so in love!!! I was previously using a sunscreen ($40) with a primer layered on top (another $40) and my foundation would still run and crease. This primer I was skeptical about due to the price but I am expecting my 2nd baby and needing to save money and time where I can. So I set out to find a primer with spf to cut down a step in my routine This answered all of my prayers! The only negative is that it is thick but if you use moisturizer which you should, one pump should cover your face if you smooth it on quickly. Immediately I notice my skin tones even and fine lines fill. I am fair olive skinned so the tint works well for me but even if it didnt it grips foundation so well it doesnt even matter. I used to layer foundation twice and cover with a ton of finishing powder, now I just use one layer of foundation and the lightest dust of finishing powder and its going to save me so much money by having to use less of each! My makeup looks beautiful all day, my liquid liner looks crisper, eyebrows crisper, even my husband noticed a difference and men never notice this stuff! So now I no longer have to purchase my $40 sunscreen, $40 primer, and my foundation and finishing powder are going to last me twice as long or longer since I’m using so much less. Ive never reviewed makeup before but Im just so excited about this primer. Thank you ELF!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not work for medium or dark skin tones I have a medium tone complexion and have to use two different foundations to cover the white cast of this product. Disappointed by the misleading "universal tint" that it says on the package.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Add Oil I bought this months ago after being told 1000x by dermatologists to wear sunscreen on my face. At the time, I was also low on primer. Lo and behold--the solution. I hated the texture but LOVED the scent (like lemon meringue, but the scent fades quickly). It was tough to blend into the face and neck, and left that zinc white undertone. This was easily solved by adding e.l.f. oil drops. 1-2 drops of oil blended in with one pump of this primer created the perfect result. It blends easily, and leaves me looking dewy and glowy but not greasy. I've worn it all summer with no problems.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too dark for pale fair skin. I am always looking for facial SPF in makeup products, for anti-aging benefits and to protect. I figured I would give Elf's primer a try. I didn't notice when I purchased it that this is tinted. I have fair skin and this left a dark orange cast on my skin. This may work better for light or medium skin tones rather than fair or dark. Elf please release an un-tinted sheer SPF product! Until then I will have to go with another brand to suit my needs!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! I’m glad to have given this primer a try. I’ve been looking for a primer with SPF for awhile now and couldn’t find anything worth trying. I saw that this beauty shield primer was only 12 bucks and had to try. This primer works best and blends better right after applying your moisturizer. I feel like it gives a nice natural matte finish and gives my skin a good layer of protection from the sun and my foundation. I have fair skin, so I make sure to blend this well so the tint blends in well and doesn’t leave streaks. Blending is the key to this product. The only thing I would change is the packaging. The pump is a little hard to press and product is hard to get out. I’m willing to let it go though since I really like the formula.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not universal tint but gets the job done I have a medium to medium olive skin tone, and the description say universal tint. It primes, but it definitely lightens my tone

Can this be used around the eyes? Does it burn?? I'm looking for a spa 50 for my eye area specifically.

Asked by: Bambino005
I love this for a concealer/primer/eye and under eye brightener. I cancels out my purple undertones perfectly that's the only place I use it for. I does not burn or irritate my eyelid or under eyes

Can I use my anti aging moisturizer under Beauty Shield Primer

Asked by: Rocky bb
Yes you can try it, moisturizer should be underneath a primer. If it peels or any inconveniences happen, I say just try a different moisturizer underneath it. I wear a cetaphile one and it does fine

I am 53 years old, African American, my skin color, is the same as Will Smith wife, Jada Pickett smith. I have very oily skin. Is this primer good for me? Plus I have dark circle under my eye.

Asked by: BrownBooty
If you use it with foundation it might be okay, but there's a beige-y tint to it, so I think it'll leave a cast on your face. I have a light-medium skintone and it evens out my face perfectly, just to give you an idea!

The picture on the side throws me a bit...does it have a tint or is it transparent?

Asked by: ellam
Has a tint. But sheers out when you blend it in. It's a light beige I would say.

Is this primer only available online? I can't seem to find in at any stores in my area. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Asked by: dogmum
It's an online exclusive like most of the Beauty Shield line, from what I can tell. So for now, it won't be in any stores.
