One of the hardest working makeup families at e.l.f. is the Camo makeup family. They are the OG of the Camo family and are still going strong. They’ve gone viral and have won awards, but how do you choose which one to use? And what’s the best way to use them? Did you know that the 16 Hr. Camo Concealer and the Hydrating Camo Concealer apply differently? Read on to learn more about how they are similar, but also how they are different, so you can always choose the right concealer for you!

How They Are Similar
To start, both the 16 Hr. Camo Concealer and the Hydrating Camo Concealer are full coverage to help cover imperfections, dark spots, dull skin, blemishes, and more. They both are liquid concealers and have large doe foot applicators to make applying them very easy. Most important, they are both crease-proof allowing you to conceal and not worry about it settling into fine lines.
How They are Different
The 16 Hr. Camo Concealer is designed for normal to oily skin. It has avocado oil that can help moisturize skin, but it also has kaolin clay that can help control excess oil and shine. It has a smooth, matte finish that stays put for 16 hours.
The Hydrating Camo Concealer is designed for normal to dry skin. This hydrating concealer has properties from sodium hyaluronate which can help to lock in moisture and rose flower water which helps to soothe the skin. It has a soft satin finish (like that of healthy skin) that lasts all day, no touch-ups needed.
Difference in Applying
When it comes to applying them, there’s an important difference that can affect how well they will work for you and it has to do with how fast they dry and set for your skin type.
16 Hr. Camo Concealer is considered a “quick dry” concealer. This means that there’s a very short amount of time from when you dab it onto your skin and when it sets. The best way to apply this concealer is by using a little at a time. This is not the type that you can swipe all over your face and then go back and blend it in. It’s best to start in one spot, put a dab of it on, and then blend out. Then move on to the next place that needs concealing. This ensures that you are not using too much, but also that you will be able to blend it perfectly before it sets.
The Hydrating Camo Concealer is more typical when it comes to application. It gives you more time to blend it out before it sets. You can use the same application method as the 16 Hr. version, but you also have the flexibility to swipe it all over your complexion and then blend all at once.
You can also use both face concealers at the same time on your complexion. You can layer the 16 Hr. first where you need to disguise imperfections as well as control oil. Think forehead, nose, tip of the chin. Then you can switch to the Hydrating Camo Concealer to tackle your dark circles under your eyes and give a little more hydration to the delicate skin around the eye. Don’t be afraid to play around with both concealers.
How to Choose the Right Concealer Shade
With the 16 Hr. Camo Concealer, because of the ingredients and how quickly it dries, you do not want to select a shade based on the color in the tube as it appears a shade lighter than how it actually dries. It dries darker than what it appears, so use the swatch on the box to help guide you.
The Hydrating Camo Concealer dries to the color in the tube so you can use the shade of the actual product as your guide.

The easiest way to find the perfect shade is to use the e.l.f. Find My Shade button on the website. It will help guide you to the perfect shade for you in either formula. The 16 Hr. Camo Concealer comes in 26 all-inclusive shades and the Hydrating Camo Concealer comes in 25.
Regardless of which one you choose, one thing is for certain... both will help cover up imperfections and under-eye circles with lightweight, highly pigmented formulas while giving your skin a moisturizing boost. What more could you ask for!
