For one, the applicator is awkward to use since it's basically a fine tipped marker (so maybe it would be better for those with thinner lips). Because it's a marker, the color really settles into the lines and any cracks in your lips and dries them out or makes it look dry after a few hours. Secondly, it dried up basically instantly. The color was about as strong as the photo when first opened, but by the third use it's hardly visible. It is also sheerer than I expected. (But I did buy it in store so I couldn't see a swatch). I'd recommend this for those with fair skin since the color will show better even after it fades. That's if you'd really want to try. Other than that I don't recommend it.
Date published: 2017-10-15

Rated 1 out of 5 by SarahAugust from Patchy I just bought this as my first lip stain, and was overall disappointed. It feels like your are drawing on your lips with a crayola marker and is streaky and patchy. The colour stays on for a couple hours but eventually dries up and leaves lines on the middle part of your lips.
Date published: 2017-10-04

Rated 3 out of 5 by Nisimako from Great color, precision, price BUT... I bought this in Nude Nectar on a whim in the makeup section. I was on the lookout for a stain that would last long, was cheap, and something pigmented enough to layer under my chapstick. I LOVE the color which reminds me of a burnt autumn red, or not-so-orange terracotta. I don't mind the marker texture of the tip because I need that kind of precision on my small lips-- they are small but very "detailed" if that makes sense. Think sharp cupid's bow like Taylor Swift's lips. My skin is fair olive (half Asian) but my lips are naturally pinky/mauve, and the product conquered that well with one application. However, there is ONE negative which is a dealbreaker: it really really dries my lips. I have to make sure to reapply chapstick liberally, and sometimes the stain gathers towards the central, inner part of my lips and crackles. It's my first stain really so I have no frame of reference, but the high maintenance of this one left me too bummed to use the product to empty.
Date published: 2017-09-30

Rated 1 out of 5 by Bexyrae from Uneven and patchy I bought this in store. It was the first lip stain I had ever tried, so I had no idea what to expect from any lip stain. This was so terrible that I didn't touch lip stains for a long time. I have since but I'm not gonna compare to any other lip stains, just my initial reaction to this product when I tried it. And I gave this a few tries. It reminded me of putting a child's marker to my lips. It's a solid applicator, it doesn't budge or go on smooth like a felt tip eyeliner does. It comes out a very watery ink. You can't get an even tone. It's impossible to get an even stroke, where ever you lift the pen it leaves a dot of ink. I tried dabbing and rubbing with my finger to even it out but it just didn't work. It dries the way you leave it so you'll have orangy blotches on the lips where ever you lift or wiggle the pen. It's basically like putting water on your lips- you just can't get an even coat. On top of that, if you somehow did get the product to go on even, it does stain... But it's more of a tint than a stain. I personally didn't like the color over all it was orange in the worst way. It was hard to remove though, which turned out to be a negative. I was disappointed with this but not badly because it's cheap. Elf is a hit or miss. More hits than misses in my opinion but this is by far the worst product they've made. When I tried this I was just starting out in my makeup journey and it turned me away from elf and all lip stains for a while which was a shame. I missed out on a lot of things that I actually love now.
Date published: 2017-09-28

Rated 2 out of 5 by Generic Name from Didn't really stain I got this a while ago, so I dont know if they changed it since, but I had falled in love with it. For the first week. It would last a few hours, look good, all is well, and then it just... didn't. I still have it, but I never use it since the color lasts like 10 minutes anymore. I dont know what happened, but it just isn't that great anymore. Its good for a photoshoot style thing, when you need good color for a few minutes, but beyond that I'd rather actual lipstick.
Date published: 2017-09-26

Rated 5 out of 5 by Amcglothin from Great stain Didnt seem to stay at first but after I have had them for a while they stay all day.
