Hydrating Water Essence is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 120.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeps Skin Hydrated! Every time I would wash my face, I would look forward to putting this on my skin! Hydrating, smoothing, and great scent! Certainly a dupe for the higher end brand essences. If you have dry skin, would highly recommend! A little goes a long way!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not suitable for sensitive skin/acne-prone skin I was excited to try a skincare product from e.l.f. because I am a big fan of their makeup. I noticed after I finished applying the product on to my face, my face started to itch and burn and my face felt very sticky. I removed the product off my face but it was too late. This is the aftermath of the product being on my face for less than 5 minutes. I would not recommend this product to anyone, especially if you have sensitive skin or are struggling with acne breakouts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice lightweight hydration I prefer this over sheet masks. It’s like the sheet mask goo without the wait or the funny face. I dose a couple shakes onto my hand and apply directly. I also like to apply this right after my body or face oils, it thins and spreads the oil into a lighter layer that is great for summer. Will continue to repurchase As this is a staple item for me

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best Water Essence! I am a skincare enthusiast so when it comes to water essences and serums, Im pretty familiar with the brands. Not only the brands, but also the prices! As skincare gets more advanced the prices do too, so its nice to see a remarkable product that works so well with a nice price tag as well. I spend quite a bit on skincare, but this is by far the best $10 Ive ever spent. The only downside is that they stopped selling it at Target! So now I have to order online each time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from When nothing worked, this did... I have extremely dry and sensitive skin from cancer treatment. Nothing seemed to work until I found this. I always liked Elf products because I am always pleased with the quality and of course the price. However, I didn’t expect this essence to solve my skin problem. I was so wrong! My skin looks so healthy, clear, glowy and all redness disappears. I love it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Moisturizing, but broke me out. I was using this religiously everyday, and it is very moisturizing. I loved it. But then I ran out, and I noticed that after I was not using I was not breaking out as much. Moisturizing product, but if you're prone to breakouts, you might want to stay away. I'm not going to re-purchase this product.

Can these be used as a toner/instead of a toner? What is the consistency?

Asked by: Keal
The consistency is a little thicker than water but thinner than the thinnest syrup ;0)

What percent niacinimide is this?

Asked by: Erica N
We consider this a trade secret. The exact amount of ingredient in our products are chosen to be effective, safe and a great value. We love to hear feedback on how to continue to make our products even better.

Is this basically a toner?

Asked by: Ice Princess
An essence is a layering product that you put on after toner and before serums and moisturizer. A lot of the frustration I have with some of these reviews is that this is NOT meant to be a toner, nor a stand alone moisturizer. You use this in conjunction with your toner and moisturizer to deliver a more potent dose of beneficial skincare ingredients to the skin (in this case hydrating ingredients). The magic of essences is that you can choose a specific formula with particular ingredients to address specific skin issues that your other products can't address alone. Essences are your friend, buddy.

Mine just arrived. Should it look cloudy? Or have small items floating in it? (not air bubbles but something white).

Asked by: Mechellebelle
It should look relatively clear in the bottle (considering, of course, that the bottle is frosted), especially when it's still. When you shake it, it looks like it has little air bubbles suspended in the esscence that can look white. When you pour some in your hand, however, it should be completely clear. If not, contact customer service and ask for a replacement.

Why is there fragrance in this? I was really excited to try it until I read the ingredient list. Fragrance does nothing for the skin and it stops a lot of people with sensitive skin from being able to use it.

Asked by: CARAD2015
I'm not certain why they chose to add fragrance, but it is rather unfortunate. It sill surprises me that there are people, even in the cosmetics industry, that don't understand that the ingredient "fragrance" is usually made up of many additional ingredients, any one of which could irritate sensitive skin. But sadly labeling laws allow companies to avoid listing the ingredients in their fragrances for proprietary reasons, which means that people with sensitive skin have no way of knowing if the product is actually safe for them to use. Hopefully elf will reconsider their decision to add fragrance to this product and change the formula. I'd rather deal with my products smelling weird than know that someone else could get hives just because they were looking for a good quality, inexpensive product.
